For comfort & convenience of commuters, Western Railway is increasing 36 suburban services from 27th March, 2012. With this increase the total number of services on Western railway will now become 1250 per day. 15 car services are also being increased by 2, now 15 car services on Western Railway will become 14 while 12 car services will become 1040.
·36 trains being introduced 34 are 12 car services and 2 are 15 car services
·Additional room created for more than 1.5 lakh commuters with this increase.
·There has been 140% increase in 12 car services on WR in last five years where as the increase in suburban passengers has been 11% during the same period.
·There has been capacity increase of 32% in last 5 yrs whereas the density of commuters ie passengers per coach has reduced by 16%
·There has been an increase of 3.48 lakh passengers per day as compared to 2006-07 whereas increase in capacity has been for more than 10 lakh passengers perday.
