K.H. MUNIYAPPA, HON’BLE UNION MINISTER OF STATE FOR RAILWAYS PAYS HOMAGE TO LATE PRIME MINISTER


Shri K.H. Muniyappa, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Railways visited Sriperumbudur today (21.5.2012) to pay homage to the departed leader and Former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi. On the occasion, Shri S.S. Prakasam, Member of the All India Congress Committee brought the Rajiv Jyothi from Karnataka and the same was received by Shri B.S. Gnanadesikan, Hon’ble Member of Parliament and President of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC).

Shri K.H. Muniyappa administered the Anti-terrorism oath to all those who were present on the occasion. Shri B.S. Gnanadesikan, President, TNCC, Shri K.V. Thangkabalu, Former President, TNCC, Shri E.V.K.S. Elangovan. Former Union Minister of State & Former President, TNCC, Shri S. Thirunavukkarasar, Former Union Minister of State, Shri J.M. Aaroon, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Shri Peter Alphonse, Former M.P., Smt. D. Yesodha, Shri Muruganandam, Shri Vasanthakumar & Shri Jayakumar, Former M.L.As, other dignitaries and Congress workers took theAnti-terrorism oath.

On this occasion, Shri K.H. Muniyappa recalled Rajiv Gandhi’s vision of India and the World and his commitment to advancing India’s role in the age of modernisation and changing global environment. He further emphasized the role of Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson, United Progressive Alliance in realising the vision of the Late Rajiv Gandhi.

Shri K.H. Muniyappa reviewed the performance of the Chennai Division of Southern Railway in areas of freight & passenger transportation and earnings. Chennai Division has achieved the highest ever earnings of `.2482 crores and also loaded 17.1 million Tonnes which is the highest ever in Chennai Division.Chennai Division also had a 94% punctuality which is also the highest ever in the history of Chennai Division.He appreciated Shri Deepak Krishan, General Manager, Southern Railway and Shri S. Anantharaman, Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai Division for the impressive performance of Chennai Division. Later, the Hon’ble Minister instructed that the Tirusulam Suburban railway station be upgraded suitably to enable the passengers from the Southern districts of Tamil Nadu bound for Chennai Airport a smooth transit.

The Hon’ble Minister assured that work will commence on the Avadi – Guduvanchery new broad gauge line (via. Sriperumbudur & Oragadam) once the State Government agrees to share 50% of the cost of this project.This project will improve the industrial growth of the sector and also help commuters of this area.
