President Prathibha Patil Visits Delhi Metro


Her Excellency, the President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil visited the Delhi Metro system today.

The honourable President boarded the Metro train at the Udyog Bhawan Metro station on the Jahangirpuri – HUDA City Centre corridor, traveled up to the Sultanpur Metro station and then came back by Metro up to Udyog Bhawan.

The President, in her comments made in the visitor’s book, appreciated the Delhi Metro and wrote, “Delhi Metro is a proud symbol of the tremendous progress that India has made in the last decade. It is a comfortable, convenient and eco-friendly mass transport system, which is benefiting lakhs of people every day. I am extremely pleased to share the experience of the people by traveling in Delhi Metro today. I wish DMRC all the best for their future endeavours”

Smt. Pratibha Patil is the first ever President of India to travel by the Delhi Metro. India’s Vice President, Sh. Hamid Ansari had visited the Delhi Metro on December 2nd last year.

Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt. Sheila Dikshit, Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development Dr. Sudhir Krishna, and Managing Director, DMRC Sh. Mangu Singh received the President and accompanied her throughout the visit.

Sh. Mangu Singh explained the technical features associated with Metro train operations to the hon’ble President who enquired about the special features of the modern Metro trains. The President traveled in a 6 Coach train during her journey and traveled on the system using a paid smart card.
