Availability of hygienic and wholesome “Janta Khana in trains.

          Indian Railways is the major transporter for all strata of society. Railway’s strive hard to fulfill obligation to all. One of the major challenges in this regard is providing economical, wholesome and hygienic meals to passengers. Providing Janta Khana in trains and at the stations is one of the steps in this direction. The Janta Khana consists of seven Puris (175gm) and Aloo dry curry (150gm) and pickle. As per recent guidelines issued by the Railways, packing standards of the Janta Khana has been improved.

  The Janta Khana is prepared and packed in base kitchen in a hygienic environment. Delhi Division, Northern Railway is ensuring that the Aloo Subzi is packed in a plastic disposable bowl covered with silver foil and the Puris are packed in silver foil before the two are placed in a cardboard box for sale to the passengers. The same is being sold at an economical rate of Rs. 15/- which is printed on the box. The date of preparation is also indicated on top of the Cardboard box. On an average, daily 14 to 15 thousand Janta Khana is being sold on stations in Delhi area.

 Sh. Anurag Sachan, Divisional Railway Manager, Northern Railway New Delhi said that passengers are being provided wholesome and hygienic “Janta Khana” in trains and at stations. Monitoring is being done to ensure that quality and hygiene is maintained.
