3RD LINE BETWEEN KHARAGPUR AND SHYAMCHAK COMMISSIONED “BEFORE TIME”

The non-interlocking work for commissioning of 3rd line from Shyamchak to Kharagpur was completed at 03.10 hrs. o­n date(09-08-14) - well ahead of the planned time of completion.

The Non-Interlocking work started from 02-08-14(Saturday) and was undertaken at Kharagpur, Jakpur, Madhpur & Shyamchak stations.Due to the commissioning of the 3rd line, Kharagpur Division of South Eastern Railway will get the following benefits :-

·3rd line between Shyamchak and Kharagpur (19kms) have been commissioned.As a result, an extra line will be available in this stretch.

·The middle line has been converted into a “reversible signalling” line.

·This 3rd line will ease out the train operations in the busy Howrah-Kharagpur section and will improve the punctuality of trains.

Although some mail/express trains were cancelled, short terminated or diverted during the “non-interlocked” period and several EMU locals to Kharagpur, Midnapur and Hijli were cancelled, the passengers and daily commuters co-operated with those who were engaged in the non-interlocking work.SER thanks its passengers for their co-operation.

Normal services of all the trains o­n the section will resume o­n and from tomorrow.
