Tiruchi shed to get 35 more EMD diesel engines

With more high horsepower EMD type diesel locomotives to be homed at the Tiruchi Diesel Loco Shed next year, the 40-year-old shed is poised to become hi-tech, the Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi, P.V. Vaidialingam said here on Tuesday.Thirty five more EMD diesel engines would be allocated to the Tiruchi shed during the next fiscal which would increase its tally to 50, Mr. Vaidialingam said at the 40{+t}{+h}anniversary “Ruby” celebrations of the Tiruchi shed.Tracing the history of the shed, Mr. Vaidialingam said its total holding of diesel locomotives was 132 today. No other railway shed in the country housed different variants of diesel locos as the Tiruchi shed, he pointed out.The shed had been rated as the best in terms of productivity and innovative skill due to its brilliant technical workforce, he said. He announced a cash award of Rs.25,000 to the shed in connection with the “Ruby” celebrations. Mr. Vaidialingam released a calendar brought out by the shed and a handbook containing list of blood donors of the shed. The Chief Workshop Manager, Golden Rock Railway Workshop, P. Mahesh, assured that the workshop would readily provide its ambulances and fire tender to the shed in case of emergency.The Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer of the shed Anupam Chauhan said a host of activities had been planned for one month in connection with the 40{+t}{+h}anniversary celebrations.Comprehensive healthcare for the shed employees, mass sapling plantation, computer training to supervisors and career counselling for the wards of the shed staff would be organised as part of celebrations, he added.Earlier, Mr. Vaidialingam inaugurated a free eye camp on the shed premises and planted a sapling inside to inaugurate the mass sapling planting programme. He also inaugurated the service building for the high horsepower EMD loco and travelled in the trial run of a shunting loco fitted with a safety device to check over-speeding.
