The plans to develop Gunadala railway station as satellite station is unlikely to happen in the near future. The South Central Railway (SCR) management is not considering any such proposal. Instead, it had made alternative plans to modernise the Route Relay Interlocking (RRI) system at a cost of about Rs.3.5 crore, according to SCR General Manager G.N. Asthana.
The General Manager and his team of senior officials inspected Vijayawada Railway Station here on Wednesday. On its sidelines, Mr. Asthana said that the Vijayawada station has enough capacity to take the traffic load.
There was no need to develop another station to ease the traffic here. The RRI would help in improving the traffic management, he said, adding, “We are not actively considering the satellite station proposal.”
When asked, he said: “It's true that there is a fund crunch. Notwithstanding many works were taken up and progressing well.”
The SCR would take up doubling of Vijayawada-Narsapur and Vijayawada-Machilipatnam lines at a cost of Rs. 800 crore.
The works would be completed in four years.
Escalators
The SCR was also planning to provide more number of lifts and escalators in Vijayawada and other stations. The passenger amenities were being provided on platform number 10, he said.
Replying to another question, the recruitment of loco pilots was underway. As many as 800 loco pilots were being recruited. Of this, Vijayawada would receive 150 loco pilots, he added.
Divisional Railway Manager Anurag, Chief Administrative Officer S.K. Sarma, Chief Commercial Manager P. N. Sundaram, Chief Engineer Pradeep and others were present.
Mr. Asthana and his team arrived here on Tuesday in a special train from Secunderabad, and left to inspect Tenali, Bapatla, Tsundur, Ongole, Bitragunta and Nellore on the way to Gudur. The team also inspected the sanitation etc in stations like Narsapur, Palakole, Bhimavaram, Gudivada and Vijayawada.
